An electrodynamic rotating machine (1) has a stator (2) and a rotor(3). The permanent magnet rotor has at least one diametral pole pair. The stator consists of highly permeable material and carries the excitation winding. The body of the stator consists of several elongated stator sections which can be shoved into the excitation winding in a direction parallel to the axis. The stator sections are formed from elongated sleeve sections with circular cross-section. The stator is formed from elongated sleeve sections with prismatic cross-section as well. The prismatic stator sections have additional compensating elements to compensate for unevenness in the air gap.
