The side impact protector has profiles(2) acting as stiffening elements and which are located side by side in lamina form and connected to the door(1) of the vehicle. The profiles are horizontally aligned with regard to their longitudinal extent. Adjacent profiles are interconnected and are encased in a fabric cover. The profiles are constructed from a high strength metal alloy and/or a fiber reinforced material. The profiles are retained in a mounting component connected to the frame of the door.
