Depending on the gear stage (2) rev count a lubricant level (10) is so changed by the rotation of stage (2) that level (10) surrounding the gear stage decreases with increasing stage speed in that more lubricant is removed from than returned to the gear stage. Two adjoining spaces (9 and 6) in the planet gear housing (5) are connected by an opening, the first space (9) serving to passivate the lubricant as against space (6) which contains the planet stage (2). The stage is helically toothed and when rotating propels lubricant in one direction and the summated areas of the connection openings (7) and their level above the lubricant level in the stationary gear exceed the area of the openings (8) below the lubricant level when stationary.
