Procedure in which the dividing blade (6) is controlled in the separation plane so that a straight separating cut is made by the flexible cutting belt (7). Sideways flexing of the blade (6) or the path of the separation plane is monitored and the blade (6) is supported in the separation plane by a suitable mechanism against the separation plane walls. An Independent claim is made for a device for a stone cutting device in which the feeding force exerted on the dividing blade (6) is transmitted to the cutting belt and the cutting belt is fed into the dividing blade (6) with the blade having positioning mechanisms (11) on either side to hold it in the desired straight position.
