The tool holder assembly for a rotating and hollow spindle (1), in a housing (8), has a pull rod (4) which rotates with the spindle and has an axial movement to clamp/release the tool holder. At least one non-contact sensor (10), in the movement path of the rod, registers the setting of the tool holder in a stepless or virtually stepless detection. The rod (4) has a radial monitoring surface (9), over the spindle (1), near the sensor (10). The sensor operates with an eddy current, or is an induction sensor, or has a magnetic or optical or acoustic action.
