The burners (12-15) are differently designed so their flames or flame fronts (24-27) are spread along the axis (28), preferably using spin-stabilised premix burners, diferentiating the burner spin counts to differentiate the axial positions of the respective flames. In one variant, double-cone burners are used to feed the combustion air in through slots (20-23) with the spin count difference determined by the slot width and cone opening angle. The axial positions of the flames can also be varied by injecting air at burner entry and/or exit.
