The cylindrical container tank has a mantle which is at least partially of a sheet strip, wound in a spiral so that the side edge zones lie on a spiral butting line. The edge zones (20,21) of the sheet strip (3) are angled out to one side at the butting line (24), to be welded together at the butt. One edge (21) can be longer than the other edge (20), to be bent around the joint to form an outer edge (25).
