The A-column has a tubular profile and a shell profile open towards the tubular profile. The tubular profile (4) is undivided, and its dimensions and material characteristics are chosen, so that it alone fulfills required stability and stiffness requirements. The shell profile (5) is connected to the tubular profile, and has support surfaces (8,9) for esp. seals for door windows and windscreen.
