To wind a web (12) into a roll, and especially of paper or cardboard which has been produced from a fiber pulp and is dry for rolling, it is passed through an on-line calender (K) before it is wound into a roll at the winding station (10). The polished web is fed over a carrier drum to the winding drum with a winding gap between them. During winding, the winding drum and/or the carrier drum have a pref. axial reciprocating movement in relation to the direction of web (12) travel. The reciprocating movement of the carrier and/or winding drum is through a cyclic angular setting of it and/or them. The winding drum has an axial reciprocating movement and the carrier drum position is shifted to maintain the winding gap between them. The linear force in the winding gap is held at a constant level by the movements of the carrier drum or the winding drum. The web (12) passes over a guide roller (109) in front of the carrier drum, in the direction of web travel, which has a pref. axial reciprocating movement so that an equal longitudinal tension is at both sides edges of the web (12). The guide roller (109) can have a vertical reciprocating movement. The winding drum and/or carrier drum are only given reciprocating movements when the web (12) surface has a given roughness value of 0.05-1.25 PPT and pref. 0.5-1.15 PPT, as registered by a surface roughness sensor (200). The pref. axial reciprocating movements of the winding drum and/or carrier drum in relation to the direction of web (12) travel are at a speed of -800 m/min. and pref. -1000 m/min. An Independent claim is included for a web winding station with a drive or press unit for the winding drum and/or carrier drum to give a pref. axial reciprocating movement in relation to the direction of web (12) travel. Preferred Features: The winding drum is shifted by a drive and the carrier roller is shifted by a press unit to maintain a constant winding gap between them. The press unit at the carrier drum maintains a constant linear force in the winding gap. Or the drive is at the carrier drum with a press unit at the winding drum, to set and maintain the linear force in the winding gap between them.
