The shock absorber for a steering column comprises a reversible damper (A) which comprises a casing (1) which is filled with fluid and closed at one end (2). A piston (4) at the other end (3) of the casing can slide along it. The piston rod or casing carries a fastening component (5). The shock absorber also comprises an irreversible deformation damper (B). This consists of metal strips (21) which are bent to form two coaxial tubes (22, 23) positioned around the casing and with a fastener (18) at one end. The other end is fixed to the casing or piston rod.
