Stabilization of bitumen and asphalt surfaces in areas exposed to water, by cleaning edges of cracks, applying polyurethane filling compound and stone particles, allowing to harden, then applying polysulfide composition. Stabilization of bitumen and asphalt surfaces in areas at risk due to the effect of water comprises cleaning the edges (15) of any cracks (14) in the surface (10, 12). A polyurethane filling compound is then applied to the edges. This is of a known type used as stabilizing layer between bitumen- and polymer-based layers in road surfacing, but is diluted. Stone particles are applied while the compound is still soft and a final polysulfide-based composition is applied after it has hardened.
