The electromechanical breaker switch has the ends (5a,5b) of 2 projecting load cables (5) contained within the switch housing (1,2) acting as contact carriers for stationary and movable contacts (7,7a), with a resetting spring (8) biasing the movable contact into an open position. The contacts are held together against the force of the resetting spring via a latch which is coupled to a release system, e.g. an electromagnetic release system (11), or an electromechanical release system coupled to a crash sensor.
