The amplifier circuit (9) has two end stages for operating a loudspeaker (3) with two oscillating coils (4,5). The circuit is operated in series if the instantaneous power fed to the loudspeaker from one end stage is below a first threshold. If the power is greater then the first threshold and less than a second threshold, one coil is driven by one end stage. If the power is above the second threshold each coil is operated by an end stage.
