Hydraulic damping element comprises a spring-loaded piston (4) which can move in a cylinder (3) and a leakage gap (20) arranged between the inner wall of the cylinder and the outer casing of the piston. The inner wall (18) of the cylinder and/or the outer casing (19) of the piston are made of materials that have different heat expansion coefficients. The heat expansion coefficients are determined so that the leakage gap is reduced with increasing operating temperature so that the sinking time of the piston is increased. The leakage gap increases with falling operating temperature in such a way that the sinking time of the piston is reduced. Preferred Features: The heat expansion coefficient of the material of the outer casing of the piston is larger than that of the material of the inner wall of the cylinder.
