The method for manufacturing toothbrushes comprises forming a block of bristles of different length and trimming the shorter bristles (3a). A section (14) of the block is moved to one side. The remaining section (14a), which has not been moved aside, is moved sideways against a cutter (1). The bundle of shorter bristles (3a) is released by the relative movement of the brush (11) and cutter and this is then stopped. The other sections of the brush are then processed in the same way.
