The structural element (20) faces its longitudinal (X), width (Y) and thickness (Z) directions in flexible top (22) and bottom strips held at prescribed thickness (Z) spacing (D) by spacers (26,28,30,32,34,36). Viewed in section, top and bottom strips (22,24) have pair-opposed free flange-type areas (38,40,42,44) extending from the end spacer (26,36) of top and bottom strips (22,24). The widths (b1,b2,b3,b4) between the outermost spacers and the free broad sides of the strips for each of the flange areas are identical, as also in the case of an interposed center strip between top and bottom element strips (22,24). Alternatively, these widths can differ for each flange area. The flange area (40,44) widths (b2,b4) exceeds the width (b1,b2) of the flange areas (38,42) of the other side of the structural element (20). Top and bottom strips (22,24) are made of material proof against gas, fluid and tear damage and both the strips and their spacers (26-36) are acid-proof or acid-proofly faced.
