The unblocking method has an optical viewing device, e.g. a camera, inserted in the hydrant (1) for locating the blocked drainage bore (4) and aligned with the latter before insertion of an unblocking device in the hydrant for unblocking the drainage bore, in dependence on its located position. An Independent claim for an unblocking unit for a hydrant drainage bore is also included.
