The venting method responds to an overpressure within the interior (7) of the storage tank for feeding the vented gas through a blocking chamber (2,9), filled with the stored liquid, followed by a second blocking chamber (5,12) filled with a second liquid, e.g. water, which leads to a vent opening, both blocking chambers located in the vicintity of the tank cover (3). An Independent claim for a venting device is also included.
