The method involves comparing the signal transmitted through an optical waveguide with a set value. The signal is emitted by a transmitter (6) at one end of the optical waveguide and obtained by a receiver (7) at the other optical waveguide end. The receiver is connected with a computer for recognizing the emitted signal with independent attenuation for set value adaptation. The computer determines if the service of the transmitter has to be increased. An Independent claim is also included for the interconnection tester for optical waveguide.
