The container for storing foodstuffs in liquid, e.g. olives or gherkins, comprises a lower, dish-shaped container (2) for liquid and a taller upper container (3) for the food. A partition (31) is at the bottom of the upper container allows liquid to pass through into the food. A hood-shaped lid (4) fits over the upper container and is fastened to the lower container at the level of the partition by cooperating threads or a bayonet-type fastening system.
