A procedure for recovering a non-converted water-soluble fuel from at least one anode- or cathode-side waste gas stream of a direct-fuel fuel cell (1) is described. The cell has on the anode side a liquid water-fuel mixture and on the cathode side, oxygen and/or air supplied. The waste gas stream(s) is acted upon with water for the solution of its content of non-converted fuel and a thus created water/fuel mixture is added to the water/fuel mixture on the anode side of the fuel cell. The anode-side waste gas stream and the cathode-side waste gas stream are combined and the combined waste gas stream is acted upon with water. An Independent claim is included for an arrangement for recovering fuel.
