The device for releasing and recovering angling hooks and lures which are caught up in still or flowing water comprises an elliptical ring (2). This is attached at the top point to a capture loop (3) and has a gap (4) in one side for insertion of the angling line. A bore (5) at the bottom allows a second line (6) to be attached for pulling the lure. Balancing weights (7) are attached on either side of the ring.
