The seat depth adjustment has a section (1a) at the front of the seat squab (1) of the automobile passenger seat which can be adjusted in the longitudinal direction of the automobile, with locking in the required position via a ratchet rod (3) provided with spaced ratchet notches engaged by a locking device (4). The latter has ratchet claws displaced transverse to the ratchet rod, which are released against a spring bias via an eccentric section of a pivoted release rod, extending parallel to the ratchet rod.
