A spinning machine is fitted with a drafting system including a sliver compacting system (10) and has a suction tube (22) directed at the point where the yarn (20) emerges from the nip between the compacting roll (12) and pressure roll (16). Two adjacent yarns (20) are treated and openings (26, 28) at the end of the tube (22) are directed against them. An Independent claim is also included for a similar suction arrangement for a spinning machine with a conventional drafting system without sliver compacting. The suction tube is directed at the yarn emerging from the last roll of the drafting system.
