The seat occupation detector has at least 2 flat electrodes (1,2) spaced apart by a non-conductive intermediate medium (3) having a peripheral spacing region (4) and a central compressible region (5), provided with openings (6), e.g. perpendicular bores, for increasing its compressibility relative to the spacing region.
