Procedures for carrying out information search in the world-wide web enable a structured search to be carried out but particularly involve terminals with small displays, such as personal digital assistants (PDA), palm tops or WAPs etc., and problems arise for the user who is limited to logic connections prepared by the server. In other cases, such as search machines, the problem arises that the user must be familiar with the syntactic structure of the search character sequence for the respective search machine. To provide a simplified search, depending on the hierarchical plane as well as on the content criteria, a search character sequence is established such that the search character sequence is matched to the requirements at least of an internet search machine, and that at least one switching surface is logically combined with the search character sequence.
