Decorative elements applied to vehicle bodywork in the form of strips or as transparent films carrying the strips, are subject to mechanical wear and weathering effects leading to their degradation. To avoid this, the decorative strips are sprayed on with a device for generating a directional color beam, that is, a jet of ink, onto the component, and then at least in this region, the component is coated over with a covering decorative paint layer.
