The driven fan wheel(1) has a drive power which in the transition region from one direction of flow to the other is limited to a value which, with regard to the maximum RPM of fan wheel, is less than the possible power consumption of the fan wheel with a position of the fan vane(42) perpendicular to the rotational plane of the fan wheel. The drive power of the fan wheel may be limited depending upon torque, RPM or fan vane position. The limitation is provided by a slipping clutch or magnetic clutch.
