To emboss tissue webs, using at least one pair of rollers, the counter roller without a pattern has a diameter which is 0.1-30.0% larger or smaller than the patterned roller. A second embossed pattern is imposed on the tissue, with a surface area of at least 40% of the total embossed pattern surface. The second pattern (7) has a number of pattern points (7a-7g) with pressing surfaces (8a-8g) forming at least 40% of the surface area pressed against the counter roller. The engraved roller is of steel, hard rubber or plastics, and the counter roller is of soft rubber or plastics.
