New nucleic acid encoding plant receptor-like protein kinase, useful for identifying new herbicides and growth regulators

Nucleic acid (I) that encodes a plant polypeptide with the biological activity of a receptor-like protein kinase of sequence (2; 794 amino acids (aa)), reproduced. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) regulatory regions (RR) that naturally control transcription of (I) in plant, especially tobacco, cells; (b) DNA construct containing (I) and a heterologous promoter; (c) vector containing (I), RR or the construct of (b); (d) host cells containing (I), the construct of (b) or the vector of (c); (e) polypeptide (II) with the activity of a receptor-like kinase encoded by (I) or having at least 60% identity with (2); (f) antibody (Ab) that binds specifically to (II); (g) method for preparing (I); (h) recombinant production of (II); (i) identifying compounds (A) that bind to (II); (j) identifying compounds (B) that alter expression of (II); (k) transgenic plants (or their derivatives) that, following insertion of (I), the construct of (b) or the vector of (c), have altered intracellular concentration of (II), relative to the wild-type; (l) plants (or derivatives) in which the biological activity or expression pattern of (II) differs from that in the wild-type; and (m) producing plants of (m) by endogenous mutation of (I) or RR.
