The locking device has a bolt member (7) engaging in a socket of the spindle. The bolt surrounds the spindle at least partly and is guided in at least two bearing sites (12, 13) which are arranged radially to the axis of rotation of the spindle (5) and at angular spacing to each other. The bolt has a ring-shaped section (18) around the spindle guided by its inner side on the outside of a tubular sleeve (4) housing the steering spindle.
