The sensor has a closed annular magnetic core (K) enclosing a current conductor (SL) and wound with a measuring coil (MW) for detecting the inductance variation within the magnetic circuit resulting from the conductor current. The core has areas (KB) which contain a magnetic powder composite. An independent claim for a direct current measuring method is also included.
