Printing plates held in a magazine (2) are changed using a transport mechanism (3) that moves them to a clamping device (5). If the printing plate does not attain its design position in the clamping bars (51, 52) the transporter (3) is tested and if operating correctly, then the printing plate is returned to the magazine, re- stored, picked up again and returned to the clamping device (5). The invention also relates to storage of the printing plates in the magazine using positioning studs matched to their size.
