The assembly to turn over sheets, and especially of paper, has an initial pair of rollers (WP1) to draw out the separate paper sheets. A sheet deflector (1) moves the drawn sheets to an inverter, and a further pair of rollers (WP4) draw out the turned-over sheets. The sheet inversion station has two pairs of the rollers (WP2,WP3), where the third pair (WP3) rotate in the same direction as the first pair (WP1) which draw out the sheets, and the second pair (WP2) rotate in the opposite direction. The second and third roller pairs (WP2,WP3) are bought separately in and out of contact with the paper sheets. To turn the sheet over, after deflection, it is grasped by the third roller pair (WP3) and braked to a standstill while the second roller pair (WP2) is disengaged. When the sheet is at rest, it is gripped by the second roller pair (WP2) while the third roller pair (WP3) is disengaged.
