The building element (1) consisting of natural stone or concrete is provided with carbon fiber reinforcing (2, 4) which is inserted into and/or is placed on top of the element, and is at least partly joined to the element. Also claimed is a method for producing such a building element. It is characterized by the fact that carbon fibers are arranged substantially parallel to one another, and are joined at least over a part of their length to the building element.
