Inlet and outlet port channel pressure is determined based on a throttle valve position, d, engine speed, R, crankshaft angle, W, and momentary valve motion, VEi and VAi and the combustion chamber pressure in i-th cylinder, Z. The measurements are provided to an estimation structure which predicts the inlet and outlet port channel pressure.
