Electrostatic coating of workpiece involves varying distance between application device and workpiece to bring working current into permitted range if not achievable by varying voltage
The method involves using a coating arrangement with an application device (1) for electrically charged coating material, a voltage source for producing a voltage between the application device and the workpiece (3), a working current regulator that interacts with the voltage source and a controller of relative motion between the workpiece and application device during coating. The working current is detected, compared with a desired value and regulated to the desired value. The working current is first brought within a permitted control range by varying the voltage within defined limits; if this cannot be achieved the distance between the application device and workpiece is varied to bring the working current into the permitted range.
