The method involves branching off a small quantity of heating medium from the heating network's forward line, cooling it to the temperature of the network return line, measuring characteristic values in both flows, transferring the measurement values to a difference measurement device and returning a signal to a central station if there is a difference. The cooling is performed by the return line. Independent claims are also included for the following: an arrangement for indicating leaks in heat exchangers, especially in heating systems.
