The system has several networked or communicating control units (3,4,6). A first control unit (3) generates a safety-relevant transmission signal to be passed to a second control unit (4) and a complementary transmission signal by different paths and passes them to a memory with two auxiliary signals that are significant for the paths. A third control unit (6) reads the signals from memory, checks them and on detecting an error switches off the first control unit, or generates different check or safety signals for correct signals and passes them to a memory. The first control unit reads the check or safety signals from the memory and switches off on detecting an error, or for correct signals passes the transmission signal to the second control unit with at least a selection of check or safety signals.
