Production of a capillary structure and/or a wick comprises forming a liquid gear system through which liquid moves by capillary forces. The system is filled with an etching material or an electrolyte or another material to etch the material from which the inner walls of the system are made. The walls are covered with a branched channel network by developing the inner structure of the wall material. The etching material is then removed. Preferred Features: The walls of the system are made of a composite material and are produced by annealing a metal powder.
