Plunging assembly for drive shaft used in drive line of motor vehicle, has outer and inner running grooves formed on inner and outer sections and having different effective lengths
Outer and inner running grooves (5,10) of different effective lengths are formed on the outer and inner sections (1,3) of the plunging assembly. A stop face (6) and one of three securing rings (9) at both ends of each outer running groove delimits the effective length of the groove, with respect to the path covered by the plunging unit (2) relative to the outer section. Two other securing rings (11,12) at both ends of each inner running groove delimits the effective length of the groove with respect to the path covered by the plunging unit relative to the inner section. The plunging unit has a cage (16) positioned in the bore (4) of the outer section, and apertures (17) for holding balls (15) formed on the cage. The stop face and one of the securing rings at the inner and outer edges of the grooves limit the path covered by the inner section relative to the outer section, as the inner section moves inward. The two other securing rings at the inner and outer edges of the grooves limit the path covered by the inner section relative to the outer section, when the inner section moves outward. Both grooves run parallel to the longitudinal axis of the sections.
