The defibrillator has a heart rhythm analyser (1) to generate a heart rhythm disturbance signal and an electrically-activated defibrillation signal generator (3) connected to a defibrillation electrode (4) implanted in the heart. A speed analyser (6) is connected by a second cable to an implanted ultrasound transmitter and detector device (7), to generate a speed signal for the blood cells in the heart, using the Doppler effect. A comparison device (8) compares the speed signal to a reference signal, to generate a comparison signal characterising the blood circulation state. An activation device (2) is coupled to evaluate the heart rhythm disturbance signal and the comparison signal and active the defibrillation signal generator.
