Device fitted to a spinning machine for forming yarn from a tow of fibers comprises a pair of feed rollers (4), a stationary guide surface (19) with a suction slot (20) underneath and extending in the direction of motion of the fibers. An air-permeable conveyor belt (17) carries the fibers over the slot. A roller (16) is situated inside the guide surface at the end of the slot and a second roller (15) outside the belt cooperates with it to press the belt gently against a concave surface (21) underneath the guide surface.
