The mounting for use on cavity walls (3) or false ceilings which may have claddings of flexible materials, e.g. gas concrete, comprises a rigid, deformable tube (1) with longitudinal slits which is inserted into a bore (2) in the wall. A wire (5) is attached to an end cap (6) on the tube and allows it to be compressed to form a collar (13) against the wall. A screw is then inserted into the tube, where it is retained by a plastic filling or conventional wall plug.
