The vacuum cleaner has a movement sensor with 2 combined mercury inertia switches at 180 degrees to one another, each controlling a relay for opening or closing the current supply circuit for the vacuum cleaner motor and connected in parallel with a capacitor, so that the relay remains closed for a given interval after opening of the mercury inertia switch.
