Vanadium-phosphorus-oxygen (VPO) catalyst for maleic anhydride production by gas-phase oxidation of C4+ hydrocarbons is in the form of hollow cylinders with a ratio of height to inside diameter of at least 1.5 and a ratio of geometric surface area to geometric volume of at least 2 mm-1. An Independent claim is also included for a process for producing maleic anhydride production by gas-phase oxidation of C4+ hydrocarbons with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of the VPO catalyst.
