The earthing contact (10) is designed so that the contact plate (18) has a contact surface (20) which makes contact with the contact element such as carbon brushes (22,24,26). The contact plate (18) is a cast workpiece. The cast workpiece has a layered structure with a base layer (34) consisting of a carrier material running on the wheel axle and one contact layer (36) having the contact surface (20). The base layer (34) is made of a brass alloy.
