The procedure for removing a windscreen(11) installed in a motor vehicle(10) entails applying a vacuum to the windscreen, shattering the windscreen, and sucking up the pieces of glass and chips. The vacuum is applied to the windscreen from the outside and via a collecting funnel(12) which lies on the windscreen and is pressed against it by the vacuum. The glass pieces and chips are directed to a grinder(14) located preferably in the suction passage(16) downstream of the funnel. An Independent claim is included for a device for the carrying the proposed procedure which has a device(15) for creating a vacuum used to suck up the pieces of glass and chips through a funnel and suction passage.
