The turbine (1) has a turbine wheel (7) with rotor blades (8) supported on a shaft (6). A flow channel (10) is formed in a turbine casing (2) for a working medium (11) supplied from the engine. A separating wall (18) between the turbine casing and a bearing casing (13) extends radially and axially to form a separating gas (19). The side of the separating wall opposite the turbine wheel is separated from the bearing casing by a cavity (20). At least one passage (21) is arranged in the upstream area of the separating wall, which connects the flow channel to the separating gap through the cavity. An independent claim is included for a method to operate the turbine.
