The water meter has a pointer-roller counter mechanism, a switching magnet (18) associated with the pointer shaft (16), a contacting device (14) above the switching magnet that interacts with the magnet to transfer measurement values and a threaded cap (4) holding down a viewing glass (2). A holding plate (9) for the contacting device is mounted in a central free area (8) of the cap screw and can be fixed relative to the cap screw.
